5 Tips to Level Up Your Gaming Setup

21 Feb 2022

Wouldn't it be great if you walked into your gaming room and immediately felt as if you had been transported to a different world? Your gaming room should be a place for you to escape and unwind, so it is paramount that your space is set up to accommodate this.

Regardless of whether you are a casual or hardcore gamer, your gaming room is an expression of your gaming expertise and style.

PC gamers and console gamers have slightly different requirements for their gaming rooms. In some cases, gamers play both and need the gaming room space to cater for this.

This blog looks at five ways you can elevate your gaming experience, no matter what type of gamer you are.

1.A Comfy Place to Sit

You need to consider the size of your room and the type of games you play — PC games or console games. If you're into both, it might be a good idea to invest in both a regular gaming chair and a gaming bean bag chair. There are numerous existing articles that go over the design and specifications of a great gaming chair, but few actually talk about the perks of having a gaming bean bag.

Gaming Bean Bag

These are the four things to look for in a gaming bean bag:

i) Support

You want to ensure that your bean bag chair has a high back so that you can play games for hours and not experience any back or neck pain. Throne Boss bean bags have a back height up to 100cm (depending on whether you opt for the child or adult size) and provide a great support for your back and neck while you play.

 ii) Material

Look for a bean bag that is quilted, breathable and waterproof so you don't feel sticky and overheated while gaming. Throne Boss bean bags are made from 420 Denier nylon fabric — the sort of material used in the military for parachute backpacks — with a water repellent coating. This means that the material is easy to clean and is thick enough to retain durability, yet provide comfort at the same time.

 iii) Storage options

A good bean bag should have multiple storage options. Side pockets allow for storing items like snacks, headsets and controllers within your reach.

 iv) Easy handling
A bean bag with a carry handle allows for easier handling. That way you can easily move your bean bag around the room, especially when you have mates coming over to game with you.

 2.Exceptional lighting

If you're after the best gaming setup, RGB lighting is something to seriously consider. It is great for creating the right mood and taking your PC or console gaming experience to a whole other level.

RGB lighting allows for a whopping 16.8 million colours to choose from. Logitech Australia's Daniel Hall said; "...through software, you can then specify those colours per key, in zones or per game or application...". This gives you room to customise the lighting of the tech in your room, from personalising your gaming mouse, keyboard, headset and gaming monitor.

In addition to this, you can even get a headset and mouse with RGB lighting that changes according to in-game action, audio or screen colour. How awesome is that?
Some additional RGB lighting ideas are LED strips, RAM sticks, wall lights and mouse pads. Your options are endless, and completely customisable.

3.CPU & GPU Upgrade

You probably already have a central processing unit (CPU) and graphic processing unit (GPU) in mint condition, however there are instances where you would benefit from an upgrade.
Making a decision to upgrade your CPU and GPU comes down to the kind of games you play. Do you play first-person shooting games a lot? Do you play highly competitive multiplayer games?

CPUs with more cores are great for games that require speed. Fast-playing games like first-person shooters, multiplayer and open sandbox games are great examples. Some of the best CPUs for speed include Intel Core i5-12600K and AMD Ryzen 9 5900X.

Your GPU is incredibly important too. Your GPU is responsible for rendering images, scenes and animations on your monitor. The faster your GPU, the more frames per second it is able to deliver. If you play a lot of fast games, you should seriously consider getting a powerful GPU. Some of the best ones in the market include Nvidia GeForce RTX 3080 and AMD Radeon RX 6800 XT.

4.A Top Notch Gaming Monitor

Do you have trouble connecting your console to your TV? A gaming monitor is a better option. Generally speaking, gaming monitors have better refresh rates and response times as compared to a TV set. Three things to keep in mind are;

i) Monitor size

A 21-inch to 32-inch monitor is ideal. However, the larger your monitor, the lower your pixel density is going to be, especially if it's a low-resolution monitor. This leads to our next point.

ii) Resolution

Your monitor's resolution indicates the number of pixels present in a width x height format. Try and aim for a resolution of 1920 x 1080 resolution or more. For the best console gaming setup, you can opt for a 4K (3840 x 2160) resolution. Also keep in mind to not bottleneck a more powerful PC with an older/less powerful monitor, as this will result in a much lower resolution.

iii) Refresh rate

The higher the refresh rate, the more frames are delivered per second, which is what every gamer wants. The ideal refresh rate you want to go for is 144Hz. If you already have a powerful CPU and GPU, you don't have to worry about refresh rates.

5.An Awesome Gaming Desk Setup

A desk is really what helps to bring together your gaming setup. There are a couple of things to consider when choosing the right one:

i) Surface space

If you have more than one monitor and tend to have meals in between games, more surface space will be handy. If you opt for a desk with shelving, you would have more space to display items that matter to you like plants and gaming merchandise, which allows you to make your space uniquely yours.

ii) Height adjustability

Having a desk that can be adjusted to a height that suits you is great for your comfortability, especially if you are going to be playing games for hours. You could also opt for a standing desk which will give you greater scope to move around.

Feeling inspired?

There are so many ways you can enhance your gaming setup and you'll be amazed how small tweaks can vastly improve your overall gaming experience. Regardless of whether you're into PC gaming or console gaming, the pointers above can be applied to both.

If you're going to be spending many hours in your gaming room, an investment to create the ultimate gaming setup is absolutely worth it.
